Manifestation to Believers Only
Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” John 14:22–23 (ESV)
I’ve often wondered the same thing Judas asked the Lord: Why will you not manifest yourself to the world?
Simply put, the world cannot receive Him—because it lacks the capacity in its heart to do so.
Jesus responded, “If anyone loves me…” revealing that He would manifest Himself to His disciples through their love, obedience, and union with the Father and the Son. His presence is not for show or spectacle; it is revealed in relationship.
As we obey His commands to love and walk in His ways, more of Him is manifested within us. This is a sacred gift reserved for those whose hearts are turned toward Christ.
While writing this devotional, a thought came to me: I don’t give my most special gifts to the world—I give them to my children. Why? Because the world wouldn’t appreciate or even recognize their value. In the same way, Jesus will not allow the world to trample on His most precious gifts. The world, under the influence of Satan, rejects obedience and refuses to keep the Lord’s commands.
Anyone who does not believe in Christ cannot truly love Him—and therefore, He cannot manifest Himself to them. Still, the gift of eternal life is available to the whole world. But if a person rejects the first gift—faith in Jesus—there is no room to receive the incredible blessings that follow.
Key Takeaways:
The world cannot receive the Holy Spirit.
His Spirit is a gift for believers.
We cannot expect the world to live by God’s truth.
